EV Driver Cockpit Subsystem Prototype
Background
The Driver Cockpit Subsystem is part of Anteater Electric Racing’s competition vehicle, focusing on ergonomic improvements for driver comfort, control, and safety. This includes the seat, steering system, firewall, dashboard, and restraints. The team is refining previous designs by incorporating driver feedback, FSAE regulations, and engineering analysis.
Goals and Objectives
The Winter Quarter 2025 goal is to integrate and test a prototype cockpit in EVO, the previous competition car, and conduct driver training to collect performance data.
The Spring Quarter 2025 goal is to successfully finalize, integrate, and test the cockpit in Kilozott, the 2024-2025 season vehicle, ensuring full compliance with FSAE regulations and optimizing driver performance.
Key objectives include:
- Reducing wrist strain by adjusting the steering angle.
- Enhancing seat bolsters for better lateral stability during high-speed cornering.
- Adjusting pedal resistance for improved driver control.
- Ensuring seamless integration with both EVO (testing platform) and Kilozott (final implementation).
- Conducting driver training and dynamic testing to validate cockpit improvements.
More Information
The team utilizes SolidWorks for CAD modeling and Finite Element Analysis (FEA) to verify structural integrity and safety. Prototyping is conducted using fabrication resources at UCI, with additional testing on the EVO test vehicle before final integration into Kilozott. The project follows a rigorous validation plan to ensure chassis compatibility and optimized ergonomics.
