Design Build Fly
Background
Design Build Fly is an annual international competition hosted by AIAA and Cessna/Raytheon. The goal is to design and build a plane that abides by the year's rules while also performing the best at the competition. The competition will take place in Wichita, Kansas in mid-April. This year the theme of the competition is to build an aerial advertising plane. Specific requirements include being able to deploy, carry, and release a large banner and carry passengers with their luggage.
Goal and Objectives
The team's goal is to place top 3 at the flight competition this April. The plane has been designed to meet the following competition criteria:
- Have a maximum wingspan of 5ft
- The aircraft must fly with the banner deployment, towing and release mechanism(s) installed for all missions
- The deployable banner must have a minimum length of 10 inches and a maximum aspect ratio (length/height) of 5
- Have a takeoff length of 20 feet for two Missions
- Securely carry passengers and their luggage in an upright position
- Propulsion system to have a maximum capacity of 200 Watt-hours
