Anteater Electric Racing Logo
Summary:

The project focuses on designing a new rear suspension for the Anteater Electric Racing vehicle. Design focuses on simplicity to achieve reduced weight and cost, with improved serviceability through design for manufacturing and integration. The main focus lies within custom designed aluminum wheel hubs and welded sheet metal uprights, which were fabricated in-house at UCI’s student machine shop.

Technical Approach/Methodology:

Our team is currently developing a new FSAE Electric racecar set to compete in the 2026 Michigan FSAE competition. As such, a primary goal is to reduce weight, cost, and improve performance. To achieve these goals, our team methodology was to incorporate design for manufacturing techniques by changing material, in-house manufacturing, and design for assembly while adhering to official FSAE rules. The team will also be focusing on vehicle performance testing to validate design by comparing the previous system to the new system with documented results.

Outcomes:

Our team was able to successfully design and manufacture the rear suspension components. Machined components were integrated together to test tolerances, where our team was able to identify issues in integration that are currently being fixed to ensure parts are successful. Once our team has finalized integration issues, our team will be moving onto vehicle performance testing to compare the previous suspension system with the new suspension system.
