Aesthetics Biomedical Body-Contouring Device – Industry Track
Aesthetics Biomedical (ABM) is developing a fat melting pod coined the AdiPod to revolutionize the body-contouring market. Currently the only solution to melt fat, adipose tissue, is to go body part by body part which is time consuming and takes several trips to your local clinic. The typical treatment is 30 minutes a body part spaced a week apart for 4 weeks. The fat melting pod would be able to treat several body parts at once and therefore save the client time and trips to the clinic. The pod would be composed of a camera system and radio-frequency (RF) system. The idea is that the camera system would be a thermal imager where it will assess how much heat and how long to apply the heat to the area of fat to have a therapeutic effect on the adipose tissue. The radio-frequency (RF) system would be then optimized to apply the heat needed to treat the tissue.
Engineering Team Projects:
Develop a novel adipose tissue characterization method Develop an innovative way to characterize the structure/depth of the adipose tissuewithin various parts of the body. The team will use ultrasound and thermal imagingtechnology to verify the depth, width of fatty layer and temperature of the adiposetissue. The team will also utilize RF emitters and create a feedback system where RFwill be applied onto the adipose tissue the system will shut off once a temperatureinput from the thermal imagining camera is reached. Develop a thermal imaging system to differentiate heat at different skin layers Develop an innovative way to characterize the heating effect of monopolar/bipolarradiofrequency when used on the skin. The system should be able to at leasthifferentiate the epidermal, dermal, and hypodermal layers. The team will also createsimulation modeling of the radiofrequency on the patient’s skin. The team will alsodetermine the best IR frequency for the imager and/or determine optical setup totransition from near-IR, mid-IR, far-IR, and/or other frequencies etc. Project Mentor: Engineering Mentor: Shaun Wootten, Research and Development Manager, Aesthetics Biomedical ShaunW@aestheticsbiomed.com Physician Mentor: To Be Announced once team is assigned
