Anteater Combat Engineering

ACE Logo

Summary

Anteater Combat Engineering (ACE) is a robotics organization dedicated to innovating in the field of combat robotics. Our lightweight and heavyweight teams compete in various competitions that are much like that BattleBots show you may remember on TV.

We are a young project team started by a couple of UCI students who really loved making their own plastic BattleBots. Through passion and hard work, this grew from a couple of friends to a group of over 100 students working to make the best possible robots.

We have two main groups of students, each with their own goal. Our lightweight teams challenge groups of students to build battlebots that do not exceed one pound in weight, entirely out of 3D printed plastic. This group focuses on teaching the engineering fundamentals to incoming collegiate students, Our heavyweight teams focus on iterating and innovating the field of combat robotics and competing against other competitions around California in the 12 and 30 pound .

We have won multiple awards in both groups. We’ve had our 12lb robot Anthilator place 3rd at a large competition, and this past year, our third battalion swept through the USC lightweight competition, taking first through fourth place.

We are an organization dedicated to sharpening the skills of our engineers through passionate work and a competitive spirit. We ensure that our work turns us into better engineers who will make an impact when we graduate.

Current Work / Recent Updates

This year, our team is working on multiple concurrent projects. Our lightweight teams are continuing to mentor new students and get them ready for our annual collegiate competition in winter 2027. We are also working on developing an innovative all-autonomous battlebot called Cognacuddles that relies entirely on a vision system to determine how to operate itself. We are also in the development process of two 12lb robots – the vertical spinner KitKat and the horizontal spinner Grassmaster. We are now also on the second development cycle of our 30lb robot, Shear Force.

We are also leading the way in a collegiate combat robotics circuit.

Team Structure

Chassis Team

Design the robot’s chassis, ensuring durability and space for electronics. Ensures safety and reliability through simulation.

Dynamics

Designing and analyzing the moving parts of the battlebot. Performs simulations, geometric analysis, etc. to optimize

Power Systems

Creates and manages all the electronics on the robot. Ensures reliability and security, even under extreme conditions.

Control Systems

Directs behaviors of the robot through code.

Lightweight Team

This team prepares, teaches, and mentors members of the 1lb team through their plastic projects. They ensure all members are able to complete their project.

Operations Team

Creates and maintains the media, outreach opportunities, and sponsorships for the team.
